Wear and corrosion resistant performance of thermal-sprayed Fe-based amorphous coatings: A review
2019
Abstract Thermal sprayed Fe-based amorphous coatings exhibit excellent wear and corrosion resistance, and thus have been widely utilized for enhancing the performance of material surfaces. In this paper, important research progresses achieved in regards to deposition technologies and properties of thermal sprayed Fe-based amorphous coatings are reviewed. In particular, the dependence of wear and corrosion resistance of the coatings on processing parameters, e.g., kinetic energy, particle size, gas flow rate, and heat treatment temperature are summarized. Moreover, the utilization of reinforced phases and alloy elements for enhancing the wear and corrosion resistance of the coatings are pres…
High temperature alloy chloridation at 850°C. Part I: Comparison of Ni-based and Fe-based alloy behaviour
2007
Eight alloys were tested under Ar/Cl 2 atmosphere at 850 °C for 15 min and 1 h. Their gross and net weights were evaluated together with the base metal consumption. Macroscopic and microscopic micrographs, associated with chemical analyses and X-ray diffraction gave the composition and microstructure of the corrosion products. Huge differences were observed if one compared the nickel based alloy behaviour to that of the iron based alloy. Molybdenum and tungsten could also play a role, but it was not clearly defined until now. A tentative evaluation of the best candidates will be given, according the experimental conditions of this work and the chosen criteria. A corrosion index was establis…
Thin film growth of Fe-based superconductors: from fundamental properties to functional devices. A comparative review.
2014
Fe-based superconductors bridge a gap between MgB2 and the cuprate high temperature superconductors as they exhibit multiband character and transition temperatures up to around 55 K. Investigating Fe-based superconductors thus promises answers to fundamental questions concerning the Cooper pairing mechanism, competition between magnetic and superconducting phases, and a wide variety of electronic correlation effects. The question addressed in this review is, however, is this new class of superconductors also a promising candidate for technical applications? Superconducting film-based technologies range from high-current and high-field applications for energy production and storage to sensor…
